What’s important here…

Where did the Puggle come from?
The Puggle is a designer dog breed or a hybrid dog that was first bred in the United States in the 1980s. We don’t know who first bred them and how they were bred – it could be completely accidental, rather than planned.
But what we know is this…
The Puggle became popular among dog owners around the 1990s. It became a household name in the 2000s and the #1 crossbred dog on the popularity charts.
However…
As we mentioned before, the American Kennel Club steadfastly refuses to recognize the Puggle as it is a crossbred dog or a mixed-breed, rather than a purebred dog breed. Well, never mind AKC, we like the Puggle anyway!
Physical Characteristics
There is no particular breed standard for the Puggle. Puggles weigh in the range of 10 to 30 pounds and are between 10 to 15 inches in height. That’s a big range. Small-sized Puggles are called as Pocket Puggles.

They have been bred…

But be careful…
Because these little guys will crave attention and can sulk when you ignore them. They expect you to pet them to sleep! These are adorable little pets that are just like children in many ways.
Additionally…
The Puggle can be quite a barker. For such a little dog, he does have a big voice and can wake up everyone in the neighborhood when he is upset about something.
This generally happens when he is left alone for too long, is hungry or thirsty, or hasn’t had enough exercise for a while.
Health Problems
The Puggle is a healthy mixed-breed dog with a very good life expectancy of 12 to 14 years. But there is always a chance that he could inherit certain genetic disorders or health problems from his parents – the Pug and the Beagle.
Specifically, the Puggle could suffer from…
- Hip Dysplasia,
- Patellar Luxation,
- Epilepsy,
- Hypothyroidism,
- Cherry Eye.
- Stenotic Nares.
Stenotic Nares is a dangerous breathing disorder during which the dog finds it impossible to breed. This is a life-threatening condition.
